The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), founded in 1967 as Reactor School under the sponsorship of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to support and manage the country’s nuclear energy infrastructure. The institute began its educational activities with the affiliation of Quaid-e-Azam University, then changed its name to Centre for Nuclear Studies (CNS) in 1976, and became an independent public university in 1997.
PIEAS offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and formal sciences. Postgraduate studies are pursued by nearly 55% of PIEAS students. Postgraduate students in good standing can apply for a generous number of fellowships. In comparison to other Pakistani universities, PIEAS has the highest proportion of PhDs among its full-time faculty. PIEAS has excellent experimental and computational facilities for conducting cutting-edge technology research and development projects.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has ranked the institute first in Engineering and Technology. About 1200 students are enrolled in university.
