It was established in 1991 to meet the need for commissioned officers by integrating engineering institutes and schools from the Pakistan Armed Forces. Later, it was transformed into a public research university, with its main campus in Islamabad, with the goal of promoting science and technology in Pakistan. NUST was established to provide high-quality technical education for Pakistan’s growing industrialization. It was modelled after an American institution and places a strong emphasis on laboratory training in applied science and engineering. It has since played a vital role in the establishment of standardisation in engineering, mathematics, and technology education in Pakistan. It is highly regarded for its innovation and academic strength, making it one of Pakistan’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning.
NUST has 7,197 students. NUST comprises one main campus and six site campuses. The NUST Main Campus is in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Federal Capital, with one site campus in Karachi, two in Risalpur, and three in Rawalpindi.
NUST currently provides degree programmes in 29 undergraduate, 60 master’s, and 41 doctoral programmes through its numerous institutions.
