Quaid-i-Azam University (Urdu: جامعہ قائداعظم) or QAU; also referred to as FAHU is a public research university located in Islamabad. The university was established in 1967 as university of Islamabad for post graduation studies only but now it grows and becomes an interdisciplinary university; more than 13,000 students enroll in it. The university campus is spread over a vast area of 1700 acres (or 6.9 km²) on the foothills of the Margalla.
QAU is one of the country’s largest and top ranked public universities. Ranked in Asia top 100 universities and top 500 universities in the world by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings & QS.
Quaid-i-Azam University is divided into four faculties, nine affiliated research institutes; 38 departments, institutes, schools and centers and currently led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali. QAU is famous for its technological advancement, research and intellectual interaction with other international institutes such as the United Nations, University of Tokyo and the ICTP etc.
QAU is one of the most famous universities in Pakistan; its notable alumni, faculty or researchers include Maleeha Lodhi, Nasim Zehra, Shamshad Akhtar, Noor Muhammad, Abrar-ul-Haq, Naela Chohan, Suhail Zubairy, Farzana Aslam, Tasneem Zehra and Salma Zahid.
