KMU stands for Khyber Medical Institution, and is a public research university in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Several constituent colleges and institutes, as well as affiliated undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental institutes and allied health sciences programmes, make up the university.
On January 13, 2007, the government of the North West Frontier Province granted Khyber Medical University (KMU) its charter. It is the province’s first medical university, with a mandate that includes all medical academic institutions in the province. The Higher Education Commission financially supports the university, and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council recognises its training programme (PMDC).
