Quaid-i-Azam University (formerly known as Islamabad University) was founded in July 1967 by an Act of the National Assembly and began offering PhD and MPhil programmes. However, the decision to offer Master’s, graduate, and now undergraduate programmes was made gradually and later. The university attracts a high number of international students due to its international reputation, professors, and programmes while admitting a limited number of students from all parts of the country.

For the country’s rising educational and technical demands, the university provides quality computer education and training to people from all walks of life, as well as a wide choice of short-term certificate and diploma courses. In total, nearly 5,500 students are enrolled in the University’s academic programmes.

Quaid-i-Azam University now has four faculties as well as nine other teaching and research institutes, centres, and schools. Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Medicine (affiliated), Area Study Centre for Africa, North and South America, Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies, National Institute of Pakistan Studies, National Institute of Psychology, National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, National Institute of Asian Civilizations, and the Computer Centre.

QAU is ranked as Pakistan’s 2nd best university.
