Forman Christian College is an independent research liberal arts university. Forman Christian College was founded in 1864 in Lahore, Pakistan by Dr. Charles W. Forman, a Presbyterian missionary from the United States. Enrolment quickly increased from 18 students in 1886 to 600 by 1915. In 1902, the school became co-educational, and in 1940, it relocated to its current 108-acre campus.
FCCU has introduced academic programmes for baccalaureate (Hons) and postgraduate levels over the years to meet the needs of the job market. FCCU’s American-style Liberal Arts education prepares students not only to be experts in their chosen fields, but also to have analytical and problem-solving skills. The four-year Baccalaureate (Hons) programme is designed to prepare graduates for success in a wide range of occupations and advancement to positions with greater responsibilities. Postgraduate programmes provide students with a one-of-a-kind experience, including the opportunity to conduct research with leading academics and with some of the most advanced academic facilities.
In 2016, the college has been ranked 9th in Pakistan among medium-sized universities and is the only institution in Pakistan which is a member of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance. Forman had 8,435 students as of 2020, including 3,173 Intermediate students, 4,712 Baccalaureate students, and 550 graduate students. It also has 220 full-time faculty members (more than 100 of who have PhDs) and a student body of over 21,000 alumni. Christians account for nearly 15% of the student body, and the college maintains a $1 million scholarship fund for its students.
