The University of Karachi (also known as Karachi University) is a public research university in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. In June 1951, it was established as a “Federal University”. It was established by an act of Parliament as a successor to the University of Sindh (which is now located in Jamshoro). It was designed by Mohsin Baig as its chief architect.
The university campus covers over 1,279 acres (5.18 km2) of land and is located 12 kilometres from Karachi’s city centre. The university has approximately 4% of international students from 23 different countries in Central Asia, South Asia, the Middle East (West Asia), and Europe. The university’s teaching is of high quality, with many professors being well-known scholars and academics of international renown.
Karachi University, with a total student body of 41,000 full-time students and a campus size of over 1200 acres, is one of Pakistan’s largest universities, with a distinguished reputation for multi-disciplinary research in science and technology, medical, and social sciences. The University is divided into nine faculties and has over 53 departments and 19 research institutes. The university employs over 893 academics and over 2,500 support personnel.
