The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) is a fully chartered institute established by a Legislative Act of the Sindh Assembly (Sindh Act No. XI of 1995) and is approved and recognised as a degree awarding institution by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. SZABIST currently operates campuses in Karachi, Islamabad, Larkana, Hyderabad, and Dubai. SZABIST was founded in 1995 with the vision of Pakistani ex-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and is named after Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. It is directed by Dr. Javaid Laghari as its first president and project director. The Pakistan Peoples Party’s leadership coordinates financial endowment and research support. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at the university. It belongs to the Association of Commonwealth Universities of the United Kingdom, as well as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and other international education organisations.

Management sciences, computer sciences, media sciences, law, economics, engineering, public health, biosciences, and social sciences are all available at the institution. Some of the programmes are open to the public and are delivered in partnership with UK universities.
